Requirements for Salespeople
18 years old
citizen of the United States and legal resident of Texas
180 hours of qualified real estate education
passing the real estate exam
becomes sponsored by a broker
must be of good moral character
Requirements for Brokers
citizen of the United States and legal resident of Texas
They are first a licensed salesperson and have been employed by a broker for four years
Can be a licensed broker from another state that has no less then four years of experiences as a broker.
270 hours of qualified real estate education
passes the real estate exam
must be of good moral character
Education Requirements:
Real Estate Principles (60 classroom hours)
Law of Agency (30 classroom hours)
Law of Contracts (30 classroom hours)
Promulgated Contracts Forms (30 classroom hours)
Real Estate Finance (30 classroom hours).
Other Info:
Must be applied for online.
Fingerprints must be on file with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
If a person is on parole or has been convicted of a crime, they might be denied a real estate license.
Only after education and background check has been verified, you can take the exam. If you fail three time, you will need additional education before being allowed to take it again.
Texas does not currently have reciprocity agreements with any other states.
Renewing Licenses
All licenses are valid for two years.
18 hours of education are required for renewal.
